G-Eazy- Mercedes Benz Featuring Janis Joplin

G-Eazy released a new track yesterday called "Mercedes Benz (The American Dream)" which features a sample from Janis Joplin. It kind of shocked me when it started out, because I wasn't expecting to hear Janis's voice straight away. G-Eazy has great flow on this track and he meshes well with Janis Joplin's strong voice. Here's a description from G-Eazy's website about the song:
I was digging through my mom’s record collection and stumbled upon Janis Joplin’s ‘Pearl’ record. I had heard “Mercedes Benz” before, but it had been a few years. It was one of those moments where I instantly jumped up, and decided it would be a dope song to flip. The concept is so relatable, and the passion is so present in her voice. The original is an acapella, so I wrote some chords and called my homie John Michael over to lay down some acoustic guitar parts down behind her vocal. I’m stoked on how it came out.

Check it out below.

Paul Basic- The Mirror EP

You may remember that we did a post on Paul Basic's remix of the classic song "Daydream" by Wallace Collection, which was a cool electro take on a really old song. That song is just one of many great tracks featured on his new EP, The Mirror.

Paul Basic is the newest member of the Pretty Lights Label, and the type of music he makes fits in perfectly with the other label members. Check out his EP below, and you can download the it for free here.

White Panda- Mo Free Mo Fallin'

White Panda did an excellent mashup of Biggie Smalls' "Mo Money Mo Problems" with Tom Petty's "Free Fallin'." I would never imagine that these two songs would mesh well together, however White Panda blended the two of them perfectly together. Check it out and download it for yourself.

Labrinth- Earthquake

Timothy McKenzie aka Labrinth is a pretty big deal over in the UK, but is still relatively unknown in America. He collaborated with Tinie Tempah on his track "Pass Out" which he co-wrote and produced. "Pass Out" won Tinie Tempah and him the Best Single award at the 2011 BRIT awards. My favorite track of his is "Let the Sun Shine" which has a great summery feel.

Labrinth's partnered with with Tinie Tempah again on his latest track, "Earthquake" to create a cool dubstep- electro-hip hop song. The production of this song is amazing. I really hope he gets bigger in America, because all of the tracks that he touches are gold.

Novi Novak- Sleepin On Me Music Video

I have apparently been living under a rock, because I had no idea who Novi Novak was up until yesterday. His biggest hit is his take on Wiz Khalifa's "Black and Yellow"- the music video has over 3 million views on youtube. Young Money offered the Chicago native a record deal, which he turned down, instead he started his own record company- Swag City Records.

His latest music video for his song "Sleepin On Me" as got some great visuals. Check it out for yourself, and you can cop his latest EP, Aura of a Supervillain over on itunes.

White Panda- Midnight Life

Djing duo White Panda mixed together Kanye West's "Good Life" with M83's "Midnight City" which is a certified banger. The two songs mesh really well together, and this remix is a nice spin on one of Kanye West's classics. At times the song can get a bit overwhelming, particularly during the chorus, but overall it's a pretty good remix. I think it's definitely worth a download.

Young the Giant- Apartment Captain Cuts Remix

When I first heard of Captain Cuts I thought it was just a one man show, but it turns out Captain Cuts is a trio. The group is made up of Ryan McMahon, Ryan Rabin and Ben Berger. Last week they released a remix of Young the Giant's song "Apartment" which turns the relatively slow alternative tune into an upbeat dance gem. The original is great, and this remix is awesome as well.
